Karen Day is the Winner of the 2021 Governor’s Award for the Idaho Arts in filmmaking. Working with an all-female crew, her lens primarily focuses on gender equity in education, health/reproductive rights, media and cultural issues affecting women and girls from Afghanistan to Idaho. Geena Davis as featured in her 2015 film, GIRL FROM GOD’S COUNTRY, the first film on the history of gender bias in Hollywood, which premiered at the inaugural Bentonville Film Festival and is distributed by Women Make Movies. Her documentary, BAMBOO AND BARBED WIRE, premiered at BFF 2019 and 23 virtual festivals in 2020, including Sheffield Docs. Currently, Day has a day job as the Founder and Publisher of IdaHome Magazines while she continues to direct and produce documentaries focused on igniting social change and gender equity around the world.
